During the class of Computer Aided Design the learning objectives are to perfect using solid works, master cam and other online programs to work the machines in the class, I don't think this is valuable to my future because I wont be needing it due to job selection, but in case I ever do, I will know how to work it. The project that I am submitting as an artifact for CAM had the following learning objectives;create a design to put on the coaster and use the laser cutter to print it out. This project was about making custom coasters and required me to design 6 custom coaster on SolidWorks and produce them on the laser cutter. The process I went through to do this project and meet the learning objectives first started with finding an image on google that I liked and I choose a peacock and a sunflower. Then we went on to SolidWork to create the base. Once we had that we transferred our file from the computer to a USB drive, and connect it to the laser cutter computer. We had to move the file on the product to get the most out of it. We had to watch the machine to nothing would happen. Throughout this process listed above, I have realized I have learned how to work the laser machine better than other years. These link back to the course goals and project goals with the following evidence of working the Solid Works and using the laser cutter machine. This tells me the following about myself and how I learn because I like hand on projects to teach me that I can do it. The two school wide learning outcomes I demonstrated with this artifact are self directed learner who communicates effectively and applying technological skills for the 21st century. I have demonstrated self directed learner in this artifact by demonstrating that I asked questions to Mr.Roach and my classmates when I didn't understand it. The second SLO I demonstrated was applying technological skills for the 21st century by using the computer to work Solidworks and using the laser cutter, and this is important because I will be able to use this skills to use whenever I need it. Overall the most important things I have learned in this class this year were to work the machines by myself. These skills I have learned in this class will help me in the future by giving to knowledge and skills to work with heavy duty machines.
CNC Cut Boards
CNC Cut Boards
During the class of Computer Aided Manufacture the learning objectives are to produce products using either the CNC machine, the laser cutter or Solidworks, this is valuable to my future because I will be able to use these items if I ever have them. The project that I am submitting as a artifact for Computer Aided Design had the following learning objectives; produce a board using MasterCam to create the design and using the CNC machine to engrave it, these link back to the course learning objective by using industrial machines to create our work. The project was about creating a design on MasterCam and required me to produce it all on the computers. The process I went through to do this project and meet the learning objectives first started off with researching what is the perfect dimension for a sign board, then I started to look for designs I liked to put on my board, next I went onto MasterCam and created the size and thickness for the board, once I had done that I chose what type of tool I wanted the CNC machine to use to cut, after I had that done I put the design onto the board, and chose to engrave it, once I had the board how I liked it, I saved it to a thumb drive and I took it over to the CNC machine, turned the machine on, once I had the machine set up I uploaded the document to the computer and started the machine to cut. It took about 15 minutes to finish cutting, the first time I did it, it didnt cut right so I went back to the computer and fixed it and went back to the machine and tried it again, and I loved how it turned out. Throughout this process listed above I have realized I have learned or grown in the following ways: I learned that its okay to make mistakes cause you can go back and improve on it. The two school wide learning outcomes I demonstrated with this artifact are being a self directed learner who communicates effectively and thinking critically and creatively. I have demonstrated being a self directed learner who communicates effectively in the artifact by demonstrating that I completed the project all by myself, this is important because I proved to my self that I can get things done even if it is hard. The second SLO I demonstrated was thinking critically and creatively by creating a design that I liked and can be adjusted to fit the likes of potential customers if I were to start a business on engraving woods. Overall the most important things I have learned in this class this year are learning how to use the new MasterCam program and learning to reflect on the work I have done.
