For community service, the learning objectives were to help the community by volunteering our time, this is valuable to my future because it will teach me how to give back without having to donate money. To complete my community service hours I had to volunteer at least 40 hrs and required me to do it in my community of Watsonville. The process I went through to finish my hours was to first I needed to find where to volunteer and what interested me, the first place I went to was at Starlight Elementary for reading buddies, there I worked with children in the 3rd grade or lower, when I was there I either helped them with the homework that they didn’t understand, and I would try to explain it the best I could, if I wasn’t helping them with homework, I was helping them improve their reading skills, they way I read with them was making sure they wouldn’t skip a word they didn’t know and if they did they would have to read the sentence all over again, sometimes the kids were hard to deal since they wouldn’t want to read. But over it was worth it. The second place I did it was at the Second Harvest Food Bank and there I went with Itzuri, the day we went we had to sort out the good and bad food, we also packed the food bags, once we had packed the bags we would put them into big boxes to send them out. The third place I did my hours was at the Santa Cruz County Fair and there I was went with Itzuri. We volunteered for two days and we basically did the same things both days. We choose to work at the flower department, we would make sure all the flowers had enough water, make sure they were nice and clean and we would walk around and dust and sweep around the department, on one of our days there we got to make like bouquet of flowers for the the restaurant next door. The fourth place I did my hours was at the relay for life flea market, when I was there I worked the booth for them and sold the items they had, I also received the donations the people had for the raffle, they also assigned me to sell the raffle tickets, and I made sure the booth was nice and clean. The last place I did my community service hours was at school were I volunteered for the flea market that we have, I was in charge of sell the clothes they had I was there from 7-3, and a friend of mine came to keep me company so it was fun. Throughout this process I have realized I have appreciated more the things I volunteered for. A school wide learning outcome I have demonstrated is representing self, school and community through personal responsibility and global citizenship because I helped out in five places that I thought need the most help. Another SLO I have demonstrated is mastering skills needed in college and career because I volunteered in a elementary school and for my career that what I want to do, and I think that it is what made me change my mind from being a doctor to becoming a special ed teacher. Overall the most important things I have learned are to take time to help others even if sometimes you don’t want to or don’t have time. In the future I still want to volunteer in different places cause I had fun doing it especially when my friend came with me.
Physical Education ROL
During the class of Pe the objectives were to do physical exercise this is valuable to my future because I want to be healthy and live for a while. The project that I am submitting as an artifact for PE had the following learning objectives: complete 20 credits worth of physical activity. The course was about exercising and required me to actually do it. The process I went through to do this course and meet the learning objectives first started with me choosing what type of exercise I wanted to do and I choose walking, it took almost two years of walking to complete my credits but I got it done. Throughout this process listed above I have realized I have learned that exercise is important, and that i should do it as often a possible.
